Welcome To the Abington YMCA Summer Camp! Please look below for alot of new changes that will hopefully improve your registration process as well as daily communication with our directors. Did you know the Abington YMCA is A.C.A (American Camping Association) accredited? For 2010 we are offering online registration, communication links, camp availability and much more! Camp Trailblazers (Age 12 -14)
Camp Trailblazer is intended for young teens and is designed to build their leadership skills, let them explore different career opportunities, give them a chance to make a difference in their community and, most importantly, to let them have a fun summer! There will be two weekly field trips amid three days of theme-related and other activities to leave a positive lasting impression. Camp Trailblazer will go on trips with Camp Pathfinder. Activities will include Leadership, Sports, Adventure, Swimming, the Arts, Social Time and more. Also, a special perk of being part of Camp Trailblazer is the opportunity to experience our Adventure Challenge Course, complete with Low Ropes and a Zip line.

Camp Pathfinders (Age 10 - 11)
Camp Pathfinder is intended for pre-teens and is designed to give 5th and 6th graders a fun, safe place to spend their summer. There will be two weekly field trips amid three days of theme-related and other activities to leave a positive lasting impression. Camp Pathfinder will go on trips with Camp Trailblazer. Activities will include Leadership, Sports, Adventure, Swimming, the Arts, Social Time and more.

Camp Explorers (Age 8 - 9)
This is your basic day camp program that children will love. Children will be broken up into appropriate age groups and enjoy various activities throughout the day. The YMCA focuses on Character Development, Teambuilding exercises, swimming, arts & crafts, science projects, group games, weekly field trips and more!

Camp Pioneers (Age 6 - 7)
This is your basic day camp program that children will love. Children will be broken up into appropriate age groups and enjoy various activities throughout the day. The YMCA focuses on Character Development, Teambuilding exercises, swimming, arts & crafts, science projects, group games, weekly field trips and more!

Camp Small Feet (Age 4 - 5)
Camp Small Feet provides children ages 4 - Kindergarten with creative and stimulating activities and learning experiences that make their day enjoyable. As with all our camps, there will be a weekly theme in Camp Small Feet, around which all of the activities will be centered. Aside from our field trip days, the daily schedule will include swimming, arts & crafts, songs and outside playtime. Each week will contain a fun, educational field trip to teach the campers more about their surrounding world. Counselors will stay with their groups all day long to maximize safety and ensure the personal enjoyment of each camper. All campers must be out of diapers and toilet-trained.

Camp Magic (Age 7 - 14)
Camp Magic is a full day of camp activities for children and young adults. CampMagic holds the philosphy that special needs children should have the same oppor tunity to partake in many of the same types of activities as other campers. Thi s camp offers positive integration with other campers when possible to enable al l children to learn and appreciate other individuals. These campers must be amb ulatory and able to function on a 1:4 ratio in a group setting. Activities are d esigned to provide a while group experience while fulfilling individual needs.

Adventure Camp (Age 7 - 12)
Children who go on field trips each day such as the jersey shore, Adventure Aquarium, Nockamixon State Park & Marsh Creek State Park. Transportation & Amusement Park fees are all included in camp fees. *Limited Space, Only One week*

Critter Camp (Age 6 - 9)
Children will have the opportunity to learn about outdoor critters as well as the responsibility of caring for live animals in the YMCA facility. Our animals consist of baby bunnies, chick hatching project, baby guinea pigs and other small creatures. We will have hands-on activities with our pets and nature walks in our local nature center.

Cheerleading Camp (Age 9 - 12)
Does your child love cheerleading? The Abington YMCA is now offering a camp that will teach your children proper stunt and jump techniques, tumbling and dance. Campers will present what they learned at the end of the summer gala. *Space is Limited*

Junior Rookies Camp (Age 6 - 8)
This co-ed sports and games camp will introduce younger campers to the basic rules and skills of a variety of team sports in a non-competitive atmosphere. Sports such as flag football, soccer, baseball, basketball, as well as traditional games such as kickball will be highlighted.

Tennis Camp (Age 6 - 12)
This camp is for those children who love tennis. We will now offer three hours of tennis in the morning followed by mixing in with our Trailblazers in the afternoon to enjoy swimming, crafts, weekly field trips and more!

Basketball Camp (Age 7 - 13)
This camp is designed to help players understand and learn the game of basketball. Basketball camp includes drills, teamwork, skills and games. Players will learn team work and how to compete at a higher level.

Gymnastics Camp (Age 6 - 13)
Girls and boys will train in different age/ability groups in the YMCA Gymnastics Center. All pieces of apparatus are available for girls’ and boy’s gymnastics. Our gymnastics camp staff undergoes an extensive training program before starting. Campers of all ability levels are welcome from beginner to competitive level.

Martial Arts Camp (Age 6 - 12)
Campers will learn the basic fundamentals and skills of martial arts. Campers will receive instruction from a qualified martial arts instructor in a fun and safe environment. Children will also learn self-discipline and self-confidence.

Cooking Camp (Age 6 - 12)
Campers will enjoy new twists on some favorite recipes… plus a focus on healthy cooking and food preparation. Kitchen safety and skills are emphasized. Children will offer samples at the end of the week.

Theater Camp (Age 8 - 14)
Does your child love to sing, act and perform all the time? Well, the Abington YMCA is now offering this NEW camp for children who are interested in learning more about musicals, acting, producing shows, dances and much more. Our Theater Camp will give a mini presentation at our gala at the end of the summer.

Dance Camp (Age 6 - 12)
This popular camp offers dance instruction that includes, ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, and other various samples. We also include arts & crafts, character development and more! Our dancers will be prepping throughout the summer to perform in our 1st Annual Abingtn YMCA Camp Gala that will be held on August 7th at 7pm. Campers MUST be registered weeks 5 through 8 in Dance Camp in order to participate in the dance portion of our show.

Sports Combo Camp (Age 9 - 12)
This camp includes soccer, basketball, baseball, hockey, lacrosse, football, and cooperative games. Basic skill development, games, scrimmages, values of fair play and sportsmanship will be taught.

LIT's Leader in Training (Age 14 - 16)
The LIT program is intended for Teens interested in working with children in a structured day camp setting. The goals of the LIT program are for teens to be given opportunities to develop leadership skills, work with younger campers and begin to experience what it’s like to work in a Summer Camp environment. LITs receive training in areas such as: Working with Children, Leadership & Communication Skills, Camp Procedures & Policies, Safety, Conflict Resolution, Developing and Leading activities, and more. LITs have the opportunity to spend time with camp groups, in addition to shadowing key camp staff in program areas. LITs spend a portion of their session with Camp Outburst for recreation and fun in addition to their responsibilities. Teens interested in being a part of the LIT program must complete an application packet, which involves submitting two letters of reference. Applicants must also schedule an interview with Lauri Warfield, Camp Director, prior to acceptance to the LIT program. The purpose of the interview is to determine whether working with children in a day camp setting is right for the candidate. Teens will be chosen according to their willingness to learn, attitude towards group participation and personal goals for their experience. Application packets are available at the Rocky Run YMCA as of February 2, 2009. Financial Assistance is available.
